Recipes, ingredients, and packs

The three things you install. Recipes say what to do, ingredients say what one action is, and packs hold them in one box. You can read all of them.

Everything you install in Recued is made of three parts. You can read all three. There is no black box. What a thing does is what its JSON says it does. And you can read that JSON before anything runs.

#Recipes

A recipe is a list of steps written in JSON. It says what to fetch, what to work out, and what to show or do with the answer. You can look at each step on its own. You see what goes in and what comes out. You see the rules that skip or stop it. A recipe has no code inside. It just puts ingredients and transforms together.

A recipe can run in four ways. You can run it by hand. It can run on web pages that match. It can tick by itself and check each time whether to go. Or it can run on a schedule. See Authoring recipes.

#Ingredients

An ingredient is a small file that describes one action. The action can be a web call or an action on a web page. It can be an AI job. It can be a read or write of stored data. Or it can be a call through a named connection. The file says what goes in and what comes out. It says what kind of action it is and how risky it is. It says what you must agree to first. That is how the gate can think about the action before it ever runs. Ingredients are checked when you install them, not guessed at when they run.

#Transforms

Transforms are the small safe tools that sit between ingredients. There are about fifty of them. They sort, filter, count, and change lists, objects, text, dates, and numbers. They run on your computer. They cost nothing. And the same input always gives the same output. Recipes lean on them so that AI is saved for real judgment.

#Packs

A pack puts recipes, ingredients, and rules into one box you can look at and install at once. The pack is where grants live. A grant says which account the pack may use. It says how much it may do, and who may use it. Installing shows you the full contents before anything lands. One recipe cannot quietly take more than the pack was given. See Recipes and packs for how browsing and installing fit together.

Pack authors pin those contents, and the things you must be told, in a numbered pack manifest. Version 1 manifests hold only recipes and still work. New app packs use version 2, which has typed contents.

#Where they live

The marketplace holds recipes, ingredients, and packs that people share. It is free to browse and free to install, forever. The Kitchen is where you write, fork, and test your own. Any recipe link can be installed, like a gist or a link from a friend. Every install gets its own secret space. So two recipes with the same name from different places never share secrets.
